If you’ve been part of a Changer program anywhere in the world over the last couple of years, chances are you’ve met Kat Wilson.
Kat is an experienced creator and one half of the iconic creator duo behind Beauty News, the globally recognised channel she built with her best friend Hailey. With around 500,000 YouTube subscribers and their world-leading (and internet-breaking) format The Makeup Breakup, Kat has spent years pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on YouTube.
At Changer, she brings that same depth of experience to creators across the globe - sharing some of the most actionable YouTube strategy in the game.
We’re lucky to have her as a YouTube Strategist & Facilitator.
And this week, we’re spotlighting the work she does, her perspective on creators, and a few fun facts so you can get to know her better…

What are you currently focused on at Changer?
Refining a program to upskill news creators and news organisations on YouTube
What part of your work creates the most impact for creators?
Being able to take YouTube strategy and best practices and make it relatable to creators and easy to apply.
What’s one thing you want creators to know about the work you do?
That I’m always learning! Every creator brings a unique approach and process, and I’m learning something new every day I chat to creators.
What’s something you wish more creators understood?
You don’t have to grind to be successful!
Strategy and a bigger picture can take away a lot of the guess work and can help prevent burn out
What’s a common mistake you see creators make that’s easy to fix?
Packaging and programming. Often great videos are hidden behind thumbnails that are an afterthought, make it part of the ideation process!
Also, creators sometimes release videos at the wrong time, or don’t know how to optimise for the type of video it is, which hinders its potential.
What excites you most about working with creators right now?
There are so many amazing examples of creators building full-fledged media empires and thriving businesses. What used to be a hobby, something traditional industries didn’t always take seriously, is now becoming a dominant force in media and entertainment.
What energises you outside of work?
My young kids get me up early every morning and keep me very busy, but when I am not chasing them around, I create video content across three channels, I enjoy reading, and love horror films.
A habit, mindset, or tool you rely on?
I work from home, so I make sure that every morning I tidy up, get dressed, brush my hair, and put on lipstick (even on a Sunday) - otherwise I can slip into unproductive veg mode.
A fun fact or unexpected detail people might not know about you?
I used to be a lawyer, but gave it up for content creation.
Quick 5 with Kat!
A few quick ones to get to know Kat better:
Favourite creator watching right now?
Toni & Ryan Podcast - good to have on as background banter when I am working or cleaning. I also watch an embarrassing amount of Sleep Token breakdowns and reaction videos (worship)Favourite part of the job?
Watching creators have those lightbulb moments that then takes their content or channel to the next level. I also love the Changer team! Most underrated creator tip?
Just start! Strategy can help you improve your channel and content, but first you need to find your feet as a creator, and that only comes from actually doing the work.Coffee order?
I am caffeine fluid - I’ll take a latte/cap/mocha/short black, iced/hot/room temp, syrup/no syrup, cows milk/alternative milk - I will drink it. Prefer it sweet thoughGot a hot take?
French toast shouldn’t be sweet - sorry, not sorry, it’s the Slavic in me.
